Exhibition "Brazil in Africa"

Coordinated by designer Renato Imbroisi, the project explores African cultural diversity, demonstrating handicraft techniques in the manufacture of products created by local artisans using fibers, wood and silver. These products include bags, bracelets, necklaces, earrings and typical garments. This project aims to formalize handicraft techniques in order to develop products and generate income.
The idea was conceived of in 2004 during a visit by Imbroisi to the city of Maciene in southwestern Mozambique in which he coordinated workshops on weaving, sewing, embroidery and design, paper and hand-dyeing, at the Mabumo Paulo School of Arts. The workshops enjoyed the participation and support of figures like Graça Machel, a political activist for the human rights from Mozambique and wife of former South African President, Nelson Mandela. Brazilians Mayumi Ito, Beatriz Carpaneda, Hisako Kawakami and Maria Rita Webster also contributed by teaching techniques for the production of handicraft products. The result of this work has already been highlighted during major events such as the São Paulo Fashion Week, one of the leading fashion shows in the country.
